The couple kissed twice at the urging of the crowd below, with an estimated 1 million people lining the processional route through London. An estimated global television audience of approximately 2 billion watched the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. The wedding was one of the most-watched live television events in British history. Catherine wore a gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The photograph became one of the defining royal images of the decade.
